Since 2015, the Victorian Government’s Safer Together program has supported Victoria’s bushfire management sector to work together and in partnership with communities to reduce the risk of bushfires to Victorians and the things they care about.
Safer Together is led by the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) in partnership with local government authorities, and land and fire agencies (including Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)).
Victoria is one of the most bushfire-prone areas in the world. To meet these challenges, Safer Together creates opportunities to:
- increase local government and community involvement in bushfire risk management
- pilot innovative new approaches to reducing bushfire risk
- invest in the latest science and technology to continue strengthening the evidence base that underpins bushfire risk reduction activities, and
- strengthen how land and fire agencies work together across public and private land.
Safer Together is supporting Victoria’s bushfire management sector to work together to implement Victoria’s Bushfire Management Strategy by bringing together the work we are already doing with new initiatives to progress towards our shared vision and long-term outcomes.
Safer Together's partner agencies work with community, stakeholders and other partners to manage bushfire risk. Our strategic bushfire management planning process helps us to develop a common understanding of bushfire risk and determine strategies and actions to reduce that risk.
